The other problem being Microsoft, and any support in Windows 10. The other solutions do not give me the rich interface that WMC and MyMovies do, so that is a slight problem, but one I can probably deal with. I really love the interface, but the fact is I can stream the movies directly from the server using apps on my Apple TV, Plex, or apps built directly into my smart TVs now. I store all my media in mkv format on a Fedora based file server, but MyMovies controls the database. The other half is the server for MyMovies. That's half of what I use my HTPC for gone. I've had 4 service appointments, and there has always been a problem on their end, so I've given up on using that device anymore, and I'm switching to streaming TV service on my Apple TV. I recently moved into a new home, and unfortunately, my new cable TV provider (Comcast/Xfinity) is utterly incompetent and is unable to get my Ceton InfiniTV 4 to work with their CableCards. For the past 7 or 8 years, I've been using a Windows 7 based HTPC as the center of my movie and TV viewing environment. Though MCM wasn't the friendliest programme to use, it did the job and was free.Good morning all, I'm not entirely sure where this topic belongs, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this conundrum. I found a programme called MediaCentre Master that will help with organising you movies into folders, scraping all the meta data (programme synopsis, cast, artwork etc) from IMDB which was useful. There may be other variations on the theme, I don't think there's (yet) even a de facto "standard" method. I understand that Kodi/XMBC players do something different, but I don't have any experience of Kodi - others will doubtless comment. batman00.jpg) some players will use that as the cover art.
Sometimes if you create a jpg with the same name as the title (e.g. My (rather old) media streamer does the same. For example, if you put each title in its own folder, then drop a file called folder.jpg in the folder, Windows 10 (& IIRC 7 & 8) will use that as an image when you browse the folder list. Some OS's/players will use the presence of jpg files as cover arts.
A tool such as "MkvToolnix GUI" can perform the attachments (and let you twiddle lots of other settings also.) Whether your media player use that attachment is another matter. jpg image to the file to form the cover art. The MKV file format has a facility to "attach". There's a few ways to do to cover art & movie wall type things it depends on the media player(s) you are using as to how they work. and you have to rename them yourself (which does no harm to the files.) Very occasionally I've see MakeMKV deduce the discs titles so you get (for example, batman00, batman01, batman02 etc.) but the vast majority of the time it's title00, title01, etc.
